Reflections Following the County Council Elections – May 2025

Firstly, we would like to thank all those that took the time to vote for us, and to those that gave up their time to help deliver our election message around the District. Every single vote is greatly appreciated. Although we were unsuccessful this time it is pleasing to once more have substantially increased the number of Green Party voters and increased our vote share in this area. We continue to gain support as more people decide that fairer, greener communities appeal to them. We will continue to work hard in our communities to push this agenda forwards, and to help bring about the changes that can make everyone’s lives better. We would like to offer our congratulations to the successful candidates. Enough voters have made it clear that that they want to see a certain change in political direction. We wait to see whether this change will be positive and bring forward fresh ideas to improve people’s lives, or negative and introduce more division and disrespect to the County Council. We sincerely hope that the elected candidates completely and fully take on the responsibility bestowed upon them by the electorate of this district, to represent and speak for all residents. Without doubt there are some crucial decisions to be made over the term of the next County Council. Happily, for the first time there will be a Green voice in the Council chambers, with Councillor Naomi Bottomley elected from the Sileby and The Wolds Division. She will get the support of elected Green District Councillors, and all the local Green parties in Leicestershire.
The Green Party will definitely be holding the County Council to account.
Residents made it clear that they wanted change, and we are really encouraged that so many felt, like us, that the Green Party offered the best vision for REAL change. We promise to continue to be a strong voice in our community, speaking out on the issues that matter most to our residents, and working hard to make all of our communities fairer and greener.
A Brilliant set of results for us Nationally
All our 4 Target Seats won! Plus good performances locally by our 2 Candidates. Please watch this video by Tony Deakin (Mid Leicestershire) and read the reflections of Mike Jelfs (South Leicestershire)
